From Mme. Prieur

Moulins, December 21, 1818

Sir:

I received your letter dated December 19, 1818, in which you tell me some nonsense about my son the doctor. I have the honor to declare to you that Baptiste Prieur, the student of medicine, has never deserved them. He is far too proper to do you harm. The previous letters that you wrote us, full of folly and madness, prove to us that your mind is in a state of complete alienation, and I cannot believe any of what you say. Henceforth, I do not wish to receive your prattle. All your letters to the prefect, to the mayor, to the whole universe, I will bundle together and send the packet to your address. Don’t bother writing to me, I don’t want any trouble with you. Let this be the last time I hear about your nonsense, you can sleep as peacefully as I sleep.

Most humbly,

Mme. Prieur
