To Mr. Frontin, friend of Mr. Prieur
2/11/1818
Dear Sir,
Sir, I take the liberty of addressing you so that you can convey my complaints to Mr. Etienne Prieur.
You know that since October 24, 1817, I have been in the power of this young man. I agreed to put myself in his hands to escape from the influence of Mr. Pinel and other such sorcerers and magicians, both men and women. He promised to give me my freedom, and you and your friends had asked him to keep his promise. He gave me his word before leaving the hotel where I live, where he at the time had his home. The day before he left he performed some ceremonies, but as I see no change and he himself has disappeared, ask him, I beg you, to cease his cruel persecutions and put an end to my suffering.
You yourself are too much the enemy of injustice not to put yourself between me and your friend who persecutes me.
I have the honor of being, et cetera,
M.B.
P.S.: I beg you, sir, speak to my persecutor, and give me some answer.
