Predictably, this demon “appeareth like the Bird Phoenix,” thank you Mathers. He sings and writes poetry (on request!), and puts on a pretty good show.

Story Notes

One of the more obvious instances of a mythical creature, very much a daemon, joining Hell’s hierarchies. 

Phoenix the demon is known for its sweet song – and possibly dangerous song, like a siren. The texts aren’t clear of the reason, but Phoenix’s sweet, childlike song seems to have some sort of threat behind it. Summoners are advised not to listen and wait for the bird to take on a human shape.
